The hard part - the photograph!

For Sophie and her clients, one of the hardest parts of the commission process is the reference photos Sophie needs to work from to create the perfect piece.

Here are a couple of tips to help you capture your pet:

A good quality close-up photograph of your pet. It’s usually best to take your pet outside, with the sun behind the photographer.

Try and photograph your pet from a slight angle, rather than head on. It’s often best to take a few photos from slightly different angles and both sides, to see which you prefer.

Getting someone to hold a treat or toy up behind the camera can often help create the perfect pose…there’s nothing like a bit of bribery!

Just remember, the better the photo, the better the portrait! Nowadays lots of phones have amazing cameras, but please be aware that many phone photos are poor quality once enlarged, and are unable to work from.

It’s then down to choosing your favourite photographs. Please send Sophie as many as you like, but make sure they show your pets personality. She will then discuss with you the best photo to work from, and once agreed will get started.

Timescale depends on workload (with Christmas time increased), but please let Sophie know if you have a specific date you would like your commission for and she will see what she can do. The lead-time for mounted commissions is 2-3 weeks at the moment.
